One of the truths we’ve learned since launching: Creators are eager for resources and support to ensure they are giving their communities accurate information. Our fellowship programs are amazing, but we are limited in the number of creators we can work with each cycle. We are building up additional programming to ensure that we can provide support to as many information-focused creators as possible.
Our Winter Webinar Series is open to the public, designed for creators, journalists, and anyone curious about the topics we’re digging into. The tickets are donation based (we’re a nonprofit!), and participants can register for as little as $1.
We hope you’ll join us.
This week:

Combatting Extremism Online Workshop
January 21 at 1 p.m. ET
News Creator Corps invites creators and community messengers to join this masterclass with A.W. Ohlheiser, a media expert in covering extremism and internet culture. It's never been easier for extremists to get views, and communicators seeking to help their audiences understand this environment are competing for attention on the same platforms and facing obstacles like targeted harassment. A.W. will break down the process for evaluating and reporting on extremist content and disinformation, helping creators to determine their role in the story, the most responsible way to present the information to their audience, and how to minimize being hijacked by online extremists.
Understanding the power higher education has in your community
January 29 at 2:30 p.m. ET
From employment and demographic changes to city development and culture, higher education shapes the future of every community, but to many of us, it’s just a lofty umbrella term for people who attend expensive four year colleges and elite universities. This belief disconnects citizens from their local colleges, fuels skepticism, and prevents people from getting information they need to engage with these powerful actors in their communities. But we can change that. You know your audience well. With help, you can provide them with relevant factual information they need to navigate these systems.
You’ll hear from an expert journalist at Open Campus, a nonprofit news organization that ensures communities have the independent information they need about higher ed. Learn how to become an expert in a system that everyone has to navigate at some point in their lives through an interactive workshop that will include suggestions on how to make your content relevant and meaningful for a local audience. We’ll review relevant places to find data for a specific community and take questions about how to tailor your posts and content with confidence on these topics.
