Welcome to the News Creator Corps newsletter! You can expect to see us in your inbox every Thursday capturing what we’re writing, reading, and learning in the news creator and information economy spaces.
Who are we? We’re a brand new nonprofit on a mission to ensure everyone has access to accurate and trustworthy information. We invest in content creators and community messengers so they can better share facts, debunk misinformation, and empower their audiences with information. The application for our pilot program, a training fellowship for trusted creators, is open, and we’re looking forward to welcoming our first class next month. We partner with content creators, news organizations, universities, high school classes, nonprofit organizations, and public relations professionals in our programs, and we’d love to chat about how we can work together.
We officially kicked things off last night with a launch party at Talea in New York City, gathering an interesting group of people from media, education, nonprofits, and content creation. Here’s what we heard: Content creators are an important part of the information ecosystem, and it’s never been more critical to invest in the work they are doing. How can all of these pieces work together to make social platforms safer for all? There’s no one right way, but we’re dedicated to building the path together. Thanks for being on this journey with us.

What We’re Writing

NCC advisor and content creator Katie Grossbard shares: “Before I knew it, I had unintentionally become a kind of news curator on social media—not a journalist, but someone others trusted to filter the noise and spotlight the signal.”

NCC executive director Rachel Lobdell writes: “These trusted community messengers share information in an age where most reporting by traditional news organizations lives behind expensive paywalls, and misinformation is available freely across platforms.”

How you can support our mission
Here’s what we’ve heard since launch: This is so needed, and it needs to be bigger. Our ambition is to build on our pilot and launch several classes next year, bringing the training program to high school classes, college students, and current journalists, in addition to trusted creators. You can support our mission by following us on LinkedIn, amplifying our posts and connecting us to potential partners and funders.
